Oysters

The Coast is famous for its award-winning 5th-generation Oyster farms.

Take time out to sample some of the world’s finest oysters and explore the pristine estuaries and waterways that create them. The quality of the oysters and seafood of our region is a result of the ‘meeting of the waters’, a local phenomena where two great ocean currents collide offshore, one warm from the Equator and one ice cold from Antartica, creating a superhighway for thousands of species of marine life. And we are the winners. The result pristine oysters and seafood!

You can experience these oysters at farm gates like Broadwater Oyster Pambula, waterside restaurants like the Quarterdeck at Narooma, out on the water with a farmer. Captain Sponges Magical Oyster Tours and even from a Kayak with Region X tours.

Sampling oyster from different estuaries is a must do, as each waterway imbues a subtle difference in taste from the unique blend of salt and fresh water, tidal flow and aquatic plants. Oyster trail experiences at Sapphire COAST Wilderness Oysters or Eurobodalla . On these trails you’ll visit the estuaries of the Clyde River, Tuross, Wagonga, Tathra, Merimbula, Pambula and Wonboyn.
