There's no other way to say it - the Canberra Region has the best beaches in the world.
If you visited one beach in the Canberra Region every day, it would take more than 8 months to see them all.
Even in peak summer period you can find a beach to have all to yourself on the Canberra Region Coast, but the locals know that February and March are the best times for swimming.
Canberra Region beaches offer adventure all year long. In Spring they become vantage points for whale watching, while winter and late autumn are excellent times to step out on a Coastal walk. There are many places to launch a kayak or stand-up paddle board, or cast a line for the freshest seafood you’ll ever eat.
Often you’ll discover the only footprints on the sand are your own, or that of a Eastern Grey Kangaroo, a Goanna or perhaps a rare Beach Stone Curlew. Potato Point is famous for its resident emu mobs, and is also home to hundreds of wallaby and kangaroo families, as is Haycock Point, and Saltwater Beach.
Narooma’s Bar Beach is a favorite place for seals to haul themselves onto the shore, as is the beach at One Tree Point Tuross Head. These “puppies of the sea” enjoy these secluded beaches for the same reasons we do, to bask in the sun and simply relax.
Explore the edge of the Sydney Sandstone Basin at Wasp Head Beach, see where the world’s first trees grew at Merimbula and marvel at the marks of an ancient water table at Pinnacles.
Mystery Bay has it all with azure waters, views to Montague Island and dog-friendly camping. Broulee is a family favourite as kids can ride the gentle currents or paddle to another section to enjoy some wave riding.
Bingie offers the best of many worlds: sandy seclusion, shipwreck remnants, the Bingie Dream Track and amazing rock formations.
Near Bermagui, Murunna Point is huge tidal sand flat, powered by Wallaga Lake, one of the largest COASTal lakes in New South Wales. At Tathra, the mouth of the Bega River is eclipsed only by Nelsons Lagoon in Mimosa Rocks National Park.
The Coastal hub Merimbula, is set on the shore of the lake, with a plethora of offerings for swimming, surfing, SUP and jetty jumps. Walk along the beach to Pambula and swim in turquoise waters.
