Merimbula

The sapphire waters of the lake and surrounding beaches are a pull for people who crave a connection with the natural world.

Merimbula has long been a town that families return to year after year for their seaside holiday. The town is also a favourite for foodies and has been for thousands of years. The Yuin People were the first to harvest and share oysters, fish and more, with ancient middens still visible on the lake’s edge. Merimbula and its beautiful sheltered waters still offer a seafood feast for those who like to catch it themselves, but a stroll through the casual CBD will unearth cafes, restaurants and licensed clubs who are skilled at working with local produce.

As the largest population centre in the Bega Valley Shire, Merimbula is home for retirees, young professional couples and busy families – all drawn to this marine playground.

Only 3 hours from Canberra and 6-7 hours to Sydney and Melbourne, Merimbula boasts a range of living spaces from homes, to units, townhouses, shared communities and apartments – all designed to make the most of this stunning coastal location. Nearby Tura Beach and Mirador further expand available housing options, with median house prices around $482,500. Bega Valley parents and carers are also spoilt for choice when it comes to education. This country community has all the government and non-government choices of a metropolitan area, but generally speaking without the price tag. This rural – coastal environment enlivens and child’s education, and mixed with a dynamic local arts community, Bega Valley children get a unique experience. Schools include Bega Valley Public School, Bega High School, Mumbulla School for Rudolf Steiner Education, St Patrick’s Primary School, Thomas More Christian Montessori School, Sapphire Coast Anglican College and Lumen Christi Catholic College. In later years the University of Wollongong – Bega Campus boasts an increasing variety of subjects, and just announced – a new state of the art purpose built TAFE campus for Bega. Additionally, the Merimbula area is well serviced by both Pambula Hospital and the state-of-the-art Bega Hospital.
